Description

The significant increase in the number of cloud-related threats and issues has led to a surge in the demand for cloud security professionals. This book will help you set up vulnerable-by-design environments in the cloud to minimize the risks involved while learning all about cloud penetration testing and ethical hacking. This step-by-step guide begins by helping you design and build penetration testing labs that mimic modern cloud environments running on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Next, you’ll find out how to use infrastructure as code (IaC) solutions to manage a variety of lab environments in the cloud. As you advance, you’ll discover how generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, can be leveraged to accelerate the preparation of IaC templates and configurations. You’ll also learn how to validate vulnerabilities by exploiting misconfigurations and vulnerabilities using various penetration testing tools and techniques. Finally, you’ll explore several practical strategies for managing the complexity, cost, and risks involved when dealing with penetration testing lab environments in the cloud. By the end of this penetration testing book, you’ll be able to design and build cost-effective vulnerable cloud lab environments where you can experiment and practice different types of attacks and penetration testing techniques.

Very interesting take on multicloud security with a layout demonstration of pitfalls and also how small misconfigurations can cause issues. Will have to dive further with some labs in AWS as I was pressed for time but very great resource to keep around for your organizations security program.

If you want to advance your career in cloud security and you want to learn how to manage the complexity, costs, and risks associated with building and managing your hacking lab environments in the cloud, then this book is for you.I got that sentence right from the book because that is exactly how I feel about it. It’s perfect for security engineers, cloud engineers and aspiring security professionals who want to learn more about penetration testing, cloud security, and infrastructure automation. Get your copy today! These Ethical Hacking skills overlap Cloud Engineering skills. For example, the author teaches us how to use an Infrastructure as Code or IaC platform like Terraform to create or provision virtual machine resources in the cloud. You will develop Hacking and Cloud Engineering skills simultaneously or at the same time by reading this book! Finally, I love how the processes are cloud agnostic, meaning they work on any cloud environment and the author shows us how to engineer operations on all three of the major cloud platforms.

This book is a must-have for anyone seeking to gain a deeper understanding of cloud security and penetration testing. With clear step-by-step instructions, diagrams, in-depth explanations, and invaluable troubleshooting notes, the author was able to simplify complex concepts and techniques for learners of all levels. What truly sets it apart is its extensive coverage of how to build different types of lab environments running on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. One of the best chapters for me is Chapter 8 which details how to build a vulnerable Active Directory lab on Microsoft Azure. After building the lab setup, multiple security tools were used in the penetration testing simulation to demonstrate how to compromise the lab.

Getting Started with Penetration Testing Labs in the Cloud, introduces the key concepts and will get you started with building penetration testing labs in the cloud in AWS, GCP,& Azure. It shows you how to set up a vulnerable lab environment in the cloud. The author also covers how to protect vulnerable lab resources from unauthorized external attacks using a properly configured network environment which is integral to modern cloud security.OWASP is covered with a target VM instancethat hosts an intentionally vulnerable web application. Instructions are clearly provided to set up to an attacker VM instance and configure it with browser-based access to its desktop environment. Setting Up Isolated Penetration Testing Lab Environments on Azure, presents how to set up and automate an isolated penetration testing lab environment on Azure. Another chapter covers container breakout techniques to gain unauthorized access to the host system. The book wraps up its clear ,concise coverage with recommended Strategies and Best Practices and how one can use generative AI tools for IaC template code creation, infrastructure cost estimation, and automation script development.

I recently had the pleasure of reading "Building and Automating Penetration Testing Labs in the Cloud" by Joshua Arvin Lat, and it exceeded my expectations in so many ways. This book is a must-have for anyone interested in cybersecurity and ethical hacking, especially in cloud environments. The book, written by Lat, is a well-structured educational resource for cybersecurity enthusiasts. The author's writing style is engaging, descriptive, and remarkably easy to follow, making complex concepts in cloud security accessible. What I appreciated the most was the in-depth knowledge and hands-on guidance it provided. The book helps readers set up vulnerable-by-design environments in the cloud, which is a brilliant approach to learning about the intricacies of cloud penetration testing. The author's expertise shines through every page. The book's pacing is just right – not too slow to bore the reader nor too fast to overlook crucial topics. I was astounded by how prevalent cloud technology has become and how this book highlights the need for cloud-specific penetration testing knowledge. It's a wake-up call for cybersecurity professionals that traditional, on-site-only testing methods are becoming outdated. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend "Building and Automating Penetration Testing Labs in the Cloud" to anyone interested in cloud penetration testing, whether you're just starting or a seasoned pro. This book is a valuable resource that will broaden your knowledge and skill set in the field. Kudos to Joshua Arvin Lat for crafting such an informative and accessible resource for the cybersecurity community.
