Time for action — making a simple Subdivision Surface


Subdivision Surfaces are popular because it makes it easier to make and animate organic objects. It also lets you make shapes that would be difficult with standard box modeling. So try one:

  1. Open 6907_08_templates_set_up.blend from your download pack and load it into your Blender Files directory for this chapter. Also, download 6907_08_01.png, 6907_08_02.png, and 6907_08_03.png into the Images directory for this chapter.

  2. Select the Reference Block that you used to set the scaling of the sloop template in Chapter 7, Planning your Work, Working your Plan.

  3. Press the Tab key to get into Edit Mode.

  4. In the Properties window header, select the Modifiers button. It's the seventh button from the left, it has the wrench on it, and is highlighted in blue in the following illustration.

  5. In the Modifiers subpanel, press theLMB on the Add Modifier button, scroll down the menu and select Subdivision Surface. The Reference Block now looks more like a soccer...
