Making Multichannel Clips (Stereo, 5.1 and 7.1)

A Clip can have all its audio tracks as separate Mono tracks, or you can have a clip with two or more audio tracks interpreted by Media Composer as Stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound, or 7.1 Surround Sound. With regard to Stereo Clips, the benefit is rather than have two mono channels (Left and Right) take up two tracks in the Sequence, you can have the Stereo pair take up just one track. In Sequences with many Stereo elements (for example, music, ambiance, layers of sound effects, and so on) this means that if you treat them as one Stereo track, rather than two mono tracks, you'll have more space available. Further, you may find that adjusting volume level is faster and easier as well.

As I mentioned, at the beginning of this chapter, my discussions in this book will be focusing on Mono and Stereo Clips and Tracks, though in this instance the same methods used to make Stereo Clips can also be used to make 5.1 and 7.1 Surround Sound clips.
