Exploring Basic Wi-Fi Technologies and Setting Up and Evaluating Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
In Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, readers were already introduced to how to set up basic ns-3 Wi-Fi nodes, such as Wi-Fi STAs and APs, as well as how to set up Wi-Fi LANs. Specifically, in Chapter 4, users practiced in detail how to set up and simulate real-time LANs and internet networks using CSMA, P2P, and Wi-Fi technologies. However, some important details are missing related to wireless network simulations. In this chapter, we will fill this gap by discussing important parameters that influence wireless network simulations, such as the operating frequency or spectrum, signal losses, and interference issues in real-time wireless network operating environments. We will discuss how to simulate real-time Wi-Fi LANs and ad hoc network environments with the help of ns-3’s supporting features, such as operating modes and frequencies, propagation models, and error-handling models. This chapter will...
