Prerequisites and expectations
The goal of this second exercise chapter is to use the skills discussed and acquired throughout the book as well as skills specifically just covered in the last chapter. We are going to continue building on using the Shape Tools and the Pen tool to create shapes. We'll cover how to prepare and organize these shapes for use in a complex multilayered illustration. We'll also work with different methods of shading using Gradients and Effects to enhance and bring our shapes to life. We have a lot to cover so buckle up and get ready to blast off!
We will start as we did in the previous chapter by placing the illustration sketch I created shown in Figure 12.2 into Affinity Designer as a guide, referencing it as we create the illustration shape by shape.
