The need for quantity control
It was a weekend, and Josef gave Jacob a list and sent him to get the weekly shopping. Jacob took out his motorcycle and went first to the vegetable shop, where he picked up the fresh vegetables and fruit on his list. On his way to the supermarket to pick up the other items on his list, Jacob thought about how the vegetable vendor had sold him the vegetables. He weighed them and then put them in his bag. Jacob realized that the billing was based on the weight of the item. If the vegetable vendor weighs the item incorrectly, adding more items and charging less, the vendor is at a loss. On the other hand, if the vendor adds fewer items and charges more, it is a loss for the buyer. Hence, in either case, one party is at a disadvantage. Jacob realized that weighing is important in this transaction.
