In many pharmaceutical industries, there are production halls where the room temperature has to be maintained within narrow limits. This is a requirement because the properties of chemical substances are quite temperature sensitive. Some items are volatile and might evaporate when exposed to a higher temperature. So, quite apart from the temperature control of reactor vessels, it is important to maintain the temperature of the production hall itself.
The production hall is usually a large area, perhaps 500 to 2,000 square meters. The room is enclosed, but there is always some amount of air leakage from outside through entry and exit points. The room temperature is controlled by a ventilation system, which is part of a large heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The room temperature is regulated by injecting cold air into the room from the air conditioner (AC) vents.
