Canonical URLs
Canonical URLs refer to when similar or duplicate content appears on your website, but on different URLS. The simplest explanation is www.yoursite.com and yoursite.com
. Type either of these into a web browser and you will probably end up on your home page. This apparently harmless situation can cause problems with how highly search engines rate your page.
When you specify your preferred canonical URL as either www.yoursite.com or yoursite.com
, PrestaShop makes minor but important modifications to the code in your web pages that tells search engines what the situation on your website is. This helps avoid any of the pitfalls mentioned earlier.
