Introduction
So far in the previous chapters we have seen how to implement GoldenGate in various configurations to replicate data. The job of the person responsible for managing GoldenGate environments does not end here. Once the system goes live like any other IT infrastructure component, GoldenGate requires maintenance. This includes applying newly released patches, and upgrading to newer GoldenGate versions. In this chapter, we will cover how to upgrade GoldenGate environments to newer versions. We will also go through how to apply application patches including DDL changes in GoldenGate environments.
GoldenGate uses a proprietary format for writing to trail files. Usually the administrator does not need to worry as to how the data is written to these trail files, however, when there is an issue in replication, the administrator would need to verify the value of the record in the trail file, and check the state of the data in the target database to identify the cause of the error.
