The optional enhanced layout

This chapter is all about the enhanced layout for reports. One thing I would like you to remember is that at the moment of writing, the enhanced report layout is only an option, it's not mandatory.

This means that a report with only a classic layout will be executed by the Role Tailored client. If the report object also contains an enhanced layout, then that will be used instead of the classic layout.

In future versions of Dynamics NAV, probably as of version 7, the enhanced layout will become mandatory, but until then you have time to convert your classic reports into enhanced reports.

Now, for the Role Tailored client to be able to run a classic report, it will use the classic client. This means of course that the classic client needs to be installed on the machine where the Role Tailored client is running.
