Summary
In this chapter, we learned about the differences between Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise (formerly Office 365 ProPlus) and the legacy Office 2016 MSI-based platform. One of the core differences between them is the product packaging and architecture, with the legacy Office 2016 editions being available as MSI-based installers and both the Office 2019+ editions, as well as the Microsoft 365 Apps editions, being only available as C2R installations.
We covered the four different installation options for Microsoft 365 Apps, including self-service and IT-driven deployments. You also learned about the update servicing methodology, along with the channels and differences between traditional Windows Installer-based installations and the new C2R technology.
By completing this chapter, you should be able to explain the benefits and advantages a Microsoft 365 Apps subscription has over the traditional perpetual license of Microsoft Office.
