It starts with GUI installer specifics and the supported application containers, adding essential notes on different packages. For the most important types of software – office tools, mail clients, and browsers, there is a detailed review explaining which are the best and why. In Chapter 6, we add short lists of the tens of free applications in any major category, emphasizing messaging applications and text editors. We then have a dedicated review of the gaming category, as its development in the Linux world has exploded in the last six years. As .deb packages are the most commonly used, a short section explains when and how conversion is possible.
