Green buildings
While sustainable buildings and green buildings have similar end goals of being better for the planet, there is a difference between the two. Sustainable buildings focus on the environmental, social, and economic impacts while the processes for green buildings are entirely focused on the environment. These include initiatives such as switching to renewable energy sources, reducing energy consumption, and focusing on carbon footprint reduction.
The US Green Building Council (USGBC) defines creating a green building as “the planning, design, construction, and operations of buildings with several central, foremost considerations: energy use, water use, indoor environmental quality, material section and the building’s effects on its site.”
Green buildings are typically awarded LEED or WELL certifications, which focus on standards and best practices that help the building become more environmentally friendly. Not every green building initiative...
