Understanding Azure Recovery Services Vaults
An Azure Recovery Services vault is a native service within Azure that supports the recoverability of services within your Azure environment. It stores information such as copies of data (backups) and enables DR of services (Site Recovery) or replication of VMs to Azure for migration purposes (Site Recovery).
A Recovery Services vault enables you to perform the following:
- Azure Backup: Azure Backup can be used to back up a plethora of services across Azure, Azure Stack, and on-premises. Services that can be backed up in Azure include VMs, Azure file shares, managed disks, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Kubernetes Service. These backups include SQL Server and SAP HANA database applications installed on Azure VMs. For on-premises, the following services are supported: VMs, client operating systems (Windows 10 and 11), Windows Server (2012 and up), files and folders, Hyper-V, SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint...
