The Cartesian and polar coordinate systems are both used to uniquely determine the position of something within an area or space. This area or space is most often projected as two-dimensional. Within a two-dimensional space, the Cartesian coordinate system expresses points as numbers along infinite perpendicular axes denoted as the x axis and the y axis. Conversely, the polar coordinate system expresses points as a distance and an angle. This recipe demonstrates how to convert between these two coordinate systems.
