Nagios


Nagios is a free and open source network and IT infrastructure-monitoring application. It provides different types of monitoring options, including servers, computers, switches, and applications. It was initially named NetSaint as was first released in 2002. 

It runs under the category of a server client application. A client application is required to be installed on the device you want to monitor, which will be configured to provide feedback to the server running its server component. The following figure illustrates the architecture and flow of Nagios:
