Description
Apps and Services with .NET 7 is for .NET 6 and .NET 7 developers who want to kick their C# and .NET understanding up a gear by learning the practical skills and knowledge they need to build real-world applications and services. It covers specialized libraries that will help you monitor and improve performance, secure your data and applications, and internationalize your code and apps.
With chapters that put a variety of technologies into practice, including Web API, OData, gRPC, GraphQL, SignalR, and Azure Functions, this book will give you a broader scope of knowledge than other books that often focus on only a handful of .NET technologies. It covers the latest developments, libraries, and technologies that will help keep you up to date.
You’ll also leverage .NET MAUI to develop mobile apps for iOS and Android as well as desktop apps for Windows and macOS.
Who is this book for?
This book is for .NET developers interested in exploring more specialized libraries and implementation fundamentals behind building services and apps.
You’ll need to know your way around .NET and C# quite well before you can dive in, so if you want to work your way up to this book, pick up Mark’s other .NET book, C# 11 and .NET 7 – Modern Cross-Platform Development Fundamentals, first.
What you will learn
Learn how to build more efficient, secure, and scalable apps and services
Leverage specialized .NET libraries to improve your applications
Implement popular third-party libraries like Serilog and FluentValidation
Build cross-platform apps with .NET MAUI and integrate with native mobile features
Get familiar with a variety of technologies for implementing services like gRPC and GraphQL

My background - currently a software development manager following a near 20 year coding career. Having not coded commercially for about 8 years my .net skills are more than a little rusty. Last year I bought the author's .NET 6 / C# 10 book as a way of getting my knowledge a little more current, to refresh my skills a little and get more familiar with the languages my developers are working with. This book, new for this year and a more 'formal' and fleshed out version of a companion PDF that was included with last year's .NET 6 / C# 10 book takes things one step further. Building on the C# / .NET knowledge you already know this book introduces some of the more advanced concepts of modern-day development that you're likely to use in the real world, from building microservices using gRPC to using the new .NET MAUI features to build cross-platform mobile and desktop apps. Each chapter has plenty of practical exercises for you to work through to gain experience and knowledge. You don't have to read this book sequentially - as long as you have a solid foundation in C# development you can attack whichever chapter and technology you're most interested in at the time you're interested in it, however at the end of the book there is a 'do it yourself' project styled around creating a survey platform using the technologies that were introduced throughout the book. This is a clever addition, as frequently when working through books of this nature you're left with an 'ok, I've learned all the theory, now what' feeling and by the time you come to put any of it in to practice you've forgotten what it was you learned! There are bound to be a few errata in the book - implementations change, bugs are introduced as new releases of frameworks emerge etc. The author maintains a GitHub repository which not only contains the code for the various lectures, but where he also accepts and responds to feedback, providing advice and updating the list of errata in a timely and helpful fashionTL;DR; All in all, if you already have a solid foundation of C# development, or if you're coming from one of the author's prior C# / .NET books then this is an excellent, practical followup that introduces some more advanced concepts you're likely to experience in real-world app development. Recommended.

Apps and Services with .NET 7 far surpassed by expectations as an excellent resource for coming up to speed with the changes and advancements in the .NET world in the last several iterations of the framework! After going over some of the fundamentals and building up an understanding of the latest in using SQL and entity framework, the book moves into building APIs, microservices, and applications across multiple platforms. The books easy to read and conversational tone combined with many practical examples make it a mist have for .NET developers, beginner and advanced alike! I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book for anyone who wants to take their .NET skills to the next level.

The book Applications and Services with .NET 7 provides a rich experience and is a real guide to exploring technologies beyond the fundamental boundaries of a language. The book's content covers a wide range of topics, providing an effective learning experience by mixing introductory information with relevant code examples and important notes and tips.Whether you focus on web, cloud, or desktop, this book is a well-packaged guide for both the novice and experienced developer.Mark J. Price's other book C# 11 and .NET 7 is a perfect match for this one and the two are definitely my first choice to recommend to my students.
Mark J. Price is a Microsoft Specialist: Programming in C# and Architecting Microsoft Azure Solutions, with over 20 years' experience. Since 1993, he has passed more than 80 Microsoft programming exams and specializes in preparing others to pass them. Between 2001 and 2003, Mark was employed to write official courseware for Microsoft in Redmond, USA. His team wrote the first training courses for C# while it was still an early alpha version. While with Microsoft, he taught "train-the-trainer" classes to get other MCTs up-to-speed on C# and .NET. Mark holds a Computer Science BSc. Hons. Degree.
