Maturity-driven program management
To engage in transformation, we will use the insights given by the assessment we talked about in the previous section. The question is how to plan the next actionable step from the current position, as concluded in the assessment. We do that by planning the ideation, prototype, pilot, and deployment projects.
We know that development has two sides. It’s the maturity and the factors that can inhibit a development path. To stay focused, we have to concentrate on constraining maturity and/or inhibitions. In discussing constraints, we will use Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints (TOC) and keep things actionable.
The takeaway from TOC is to know what bottlenecks are likely to hinder progress. Every system has a limiting factor or constraint. TOC helps with five focusing steps, which, when customized for our transformation, are as follows:
