Adding surface details to sculpted hair

It's time to add some detail to the hair. Artistically, it is not generally a good idea to sculpt every individual hair; the results usually end up looking too busy and visually distracting. It is better to sculpt details that give the impression of hair layered onto the surface. Most art looks best when broken down into a hierarchy of detail: large forms, medium forms, and small forms.

We've established the largest forms of hair by roughing out each of the sections of hair. But right now, it looks like a blob of clay because it has no medium or small detail. Our next step will be to add some medium-sized details to the hair to emphasize the flow of the hair strands within each section.
