A cluster with a single host
Since it has no actual failover capabilities, a single-host failover cluster is normally of very little use in a production environment. However, it does have a few potential applications.
The most common use for a single-node Hyper-V Server cluster is for testing. You can use such a cluster to prescreen operating system and application upgrades and patches before placing them onto your production systems. Another related use is vetting new hardware. Since Microsoft Failover Clustering and Hyper-V Server do not require that all nodes be identical, you can temporarily join new server hardware into a cluster with your test host, ensure it behaves as expected, and then move it into a production cluster.
