Summary
In this chapter, we looked at performance monitoring and load balancing.
First, we learned how to use Server Performance Advisor and Performance Monitor to learn how hosts are functioning. We then learned about various tools to monitor the capabilities and stability of the core components of your systems.
When discussing performance, it is always important to remember that the goal is to achieve a level that provides a satisfactory experience for users of the system; not to achieve an arbitrary score on a benchmark. Provision and balance our resources wisely.
After performance monitoring, we showed how to automatically set restrictions on your virtual machines to control which hosts they can operate on. This is an important tactic to keep our host systems properly load-balanced.
In the next chapter, we will look at special uses of Hyper-V Server clusters beyond the norm of consolidation.
