As we described in previous chapters, Qlik Sense makes it easy to manipulate and load data from different sources through a visual interface called Data Manager. Nevertheless, Qlik Sense comes with a very powerful scripting language that is shared with its father, QlikView, mostly in its totality and making these tools unique in the market.
Qlik Sense inherited most of the script elements from QlikView. Most of the functions found in QlikView can still be used in Qlik Sense. Other new functions, such as declare and derive, were introduced with Qlik Sense and are not available in QlikView. These two functions are described in Chapter 7, Best Practices for Loading Data in Qlik Sense, so I recommend you refer to them after reading this chapter if you have not done so already.
