Time for action – creating a user and assigning an administrator role


  1. Log in as a portal administrator and go to Control Panel.

  2. On Control Panel, Scroll down to the Portal section and click on the Users menu item. It will bring you to the User Management portlet of Liferay.

  3. On the Users screen, click on the Add link. It will open a screen to add a new user as shown in the following screenshot.

  4. On the New User screen, enter the following values as shown in the following screenshot:

    • Screen Name: jeffm

    • Email Address: jeff.mcclure@cignex.com

    • First Name: Jeff

    • Last Name: Mcclure

    • Birthday: 23 May 1980

    These five are mandatory fields to create any user in Liferay.

  5. Click on the Save button from the right-hand side menu items. It will add a new user and show a screen with detailed profile information for the user.

  6. Next step would be to set the password for user. By default, Liferay generates random password and sends to the e-mail address provided during user creation. On the user profile screen, from the right...
