Summary
In this chapter, we have seen that multi-speed levels that appear in an incumbent’s context can strongly influence a DevOps enterprise’s evolution. We also looked at the third contextual layer, the one of DevOps state-of-art, and analyzed the most repeatable and representative contextual elements that we typically find when looking at a representative sample of incumbent banks. The core DevOps-related elements of an incumbent’s corporate strategy were defined, followed by the corresponding ones of its technology strategy. As we discovered, the corporate and technology strategic objectives have several similarities, and it is very intuitive to link them to a DevOps enterprise evolution. Then, we explained the importance of defining your DevOps enterprise objectives before your vision and outlined the most dominant and representative objectives of incumbents, the sum of which we used to define our DevOps vision in a single line.
