Protecting privacy when using personal data
Whether a model needs any personal data as input depends on the use case. Similarly, it depends on what the model will be used for and what kind of personal data is needed. Let's start by going over what personal data can entail, and then how we can protect privacy when handling personal data.
Removing personally identifiable information
Personal data is any data that contains information about an individual. Most importantly, you need to know when you're working with personally identifiable information (PII)data. PII data is information that can be used to identify a specific individual – for example, someone's name, address, telephone number, or email address.
In general, PII data should be handled carefully. Even when it's needed for any processing you need to do (for example, to send someone a product they bought), people that don't need that information shouldn't be able to access it.
