Slackbot versus regular bots
As we discussed in Chapter 6, Your Workspace Slackbot, Slackbot is an extremely useful and beneficial tool to your workspace. Working as essentially your digital assistant, Slackbot serves as a quick and easy helper for automated tasks within your Slack channels and direct messages. While Slackbot's skills are varied, they are limited in design. This is where your regular bots come into play.
Bots can range from a simple notifier to interactive, button-based bots that execute programmed commands. The extent to which you can cultivate your bot is limited only by your own capabilities with coding and the advanced nature of this level of technology.
Some of the many features of bots include the following:
- Have names, profile pictures, and can be found in your directory
- Are mentioned with the
@symbol in channels and direct messages - Post their own messages and upload files
- Are invited or removed from private and public channels...
