Chapter 13: Animation and Movement In-Game

"Give my creation…life!"

—Dr. Frankenstein

Now things are going to start feeling a little more fun. We are going to start taking all the pieces we have lovingly crafted so far and put them together into a cohesive whole. It's time for our game to start feeling like a game!

We're going to cover a lot of ground in this chapter, trust me. Specifically, we will do the following:

  • Import the rigged marine model and Mixamo animations into Unity
  • Create and apply a material to the marine
  • Play animations on the marine with an Animation Controller and add footstep sounds
  • Add lights to the level and other tweaks
  • Script the marine to move with the keyboard
  • Follow the moving marine with a Cinemachine camera
  • Animate the blast doors and the bridge

See? I told you we'd be covering a lot.

By the end of the chapter, you'll have the marine roving all over the place...
