As we discussed in the Planning and configuring site collection architecture section, Microsoft recommends using the one-to-one, site-to-site collection architecture going forward to help make it easier to transition to SharePoint Online. In SharePoint Online, since modern sites all use top-level site designations, there's no need to worry about breaking file sharing links or absolute paths to documents and resources due to organizational restructuring.
