When creating an entity, you can specify the ownership type for the entity. There are two types of ownership that you can select when creating an entity:
- User or team
- Organization
If an entity is a User or team owned, then records will have an Owner lookup field. This means that the record can be assigned to a user or a team. A User or team owned entity means that you can employ the security model described in Chapter 8, Security, to control access to subsets of the records in the entity.
If an entity is Organization owned, then there is no owner field and security can only control access to all the records in the entity. You cannot change the ownership type after creating the entity.
If you are unsure as to which ownership type to use, choose User or team as you can hide the owner field and configure security so that the entity operates like an Organization owned entity.
