In today's world of ubiquitous mobile devices, it is common practice to take a quick snapshot of anything significant that we want to remember or reference later. In the same way, a baseline functions as a snapshot of your project. It acts as storage for project artifacts that you can reference at a later date. A baseline stores the best estimates for the scope, cost, and timeline of a project at any point in time. A reference point in the project life cycle is defined by the baseline.
Microsoft Project provides a comprehensive solution for storing a project schedule baseline. Approximately 20 parameters are recorded for every task. These parameters are related to the start and end dates, work, duration, and cost.
