Global sustainability plan
In 2022, US President Biden issued Executive Order 14057, entitled The Federal Sustainability Plan, which established a set of goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These goals outlined here are in line with the updated Paris Agreement goals adopted in September 2022 by the 194 member countries of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is therefore more than likely that wherever you are reading this book, your country has adopted the same or similar goals.
The importance of understanding these goals is that buildings play a major role in causing greenhouse gas emissions and therefore they will need to play a significant role in reducing these emissions to achieve these goals. IoT and smart building technology will be required throughout buildings to this end.
