You made it to the end of the book! Nice! There’s no greater investment than the investments you make in yourself. I’m sure Ken and Chris will give you some incredible tips and words of encouragement to take with you, so I’m going to do my best to keep up with them by offering a few of my personal mottos and beliefs that I hope will help you throughout your cybersecurity career journey.

First, know your why. Before you go down the path of investing in education and certification training, go back to step zero and ask yourself, why am I here?, why do I even want to pursue a career in cybersecurity?, and am I sure this is where I want to be and not just a career someone told me would be good to pursue?

Ken Underhill

Kenneth Underhill is a co-founder of Cyber Life, which provides cybersecurity certification education to organizations and cybersecurity professionals, and one of the authors of the international bestselling book Hack the Cybersecurity Interview. He has won multiple industry awards for his work to improve diversity in the industry and is an advocate for women's rights. Tia Hopkins

Tia Hopkins is the field CTO and chief cyber risk strategist at eSentire. She is also an adjunct professor of cybersecurity at Yeshiva University, a football coach, and is pursuing an executive MBA and Ph.D. in cybersecurity. Tia was recognized by SC Media as an outstanding educator in 2019, as well as one of the Top 25 Women Leaders in Cybersecurity and Top 100 Women in Cybersecurity, both in 2020.
