Cost optimization recommendations for AKS clusters
In Chapter 5, Hitting the Goals for Usage Optimization, in Workbook 10 – Azure Kubernetes Services, we looked at how to reduce AKS costs by using a cluster auto scaler, spot VMs, and start/stop AKS cluster strategies. Since Kubecost provides granular visibility into an AKS cluster, let’s look at some recommendations it offers. To view these recommendations for your AKS cluster, go to the Kubecost home page (https://localhost:9090
), and then click on the Savings tab.
Manage underutilized nodes
Nodes in an AKS cluster refer to the Virtual machine instances that provide compute for the cluster. To view whether the nodes are overprovisioned, click on the Manage underutilized nodes report in the Savings tab.
