Merging, unmerging, and splitting cells
When working with tables, it is quite common to have cells that run across more than one row or column or are split into two cells to present information in the most effective way possible. In this recipe, we are going to look at how to split, merge, and unmerge cells within InDesign, giving you the exact layout you need.
Getting started
To complete this recipe, simply open InDesign on your system and create a new document with 12 pages, as shown in the Creating a new document recipe in Chapter 1. You will also need to create a new frame containing a table, as shown in the Inserting and creating tables recipe.
How to do it…
To merge, unmerge, and split cells, follow these steps:
- With the Type tool, click inside one cell and drag your mouse into the next cell, then release the mouse button. In our case, we will select two cells, one above the other, as shown in Figure 3.13:
