Chapter 9: Using the Datadog REST API

In the previous chapter, you learned how platform components, mainly made up of third-party software products and cloud services, are integrated with Datadog, by way of Datadog-supported integrations and custom checks. The main objective of those integrations is to monitor third-party tools used in the application stacks from Datadog. The integration with Datadog can be done in the other direction also. Tools and scripts can use Datadog HTTP REST APIs to access the Datadog platform programmatically. For example, if you need to post a metric value or an event to Datadog from an application, that can be done using the related REST APIs.

The Datadog REST API set is a comprehensive programmatic interface to access the Datadog monitoring platform.
