A vSwitch is local to each ESXi host. A default standard switch, vSwitch0, with a Management Portgroup and a Virtual Machine Port Group is created during ESXi installation. In this recipe, we will learn how to create new vSphere Standard Switches using both the HTML5 client and the ESXi CLI.

Before you begin, it is important to identify the correct uplinks. Not all physical uplinks on a host can pass all traffic. For instance, only a certain number of VLANs would be trunked to the physical switch port(s) the uplink(s) are cabled to.
