How to design reports with the wizard

In this section, we'll create a report using the wizard built into Report Builder. We will recreate the same report from Chapter 2, Advanced Reports with SQL Server Data Tools , in order to compare the way a report is created in Report Builder with the way you create reports in SSDT.

Getting ready

To get to the wizard, simply open Report Builder. If you already have Report Builder open, simply select the File tab and click on New.

How to do it...

  1. On the Getting Started dialog, click on Table or Matrix Wizard:

    Figure 4.04

  2. On the next page of the wizard, ensure that the Create a dataset option is selected and then click on Next.

  3. If you deployed the reports in Chapter 3, Advanced Report Authoring with SQL Server Data Tools , Installing Reporting Services Related Tools and How to publish reports recipe, you should see an existing data source connection for WideWorldImportersDW. If it is there, simply click on it and pick Next. If not, you can use the New button...
