Summary
In this chapter, we introduced the basic concepts of Epidemiology and two basic epidemic models (SIR and SIRS) for infections transmitted from human to human. Then, you learned how to model and solve an ordinary differential equation's system for epidemic models. Finally, we developed a basic simulator implementing a CA of the SIRS model in a small population. We try different parameters and get interesting results. Of course, these examples are only for educational purposes and if we need to model a real disease, we will need an epidemiologist to provide accurate and real parameters.
In the next chapter, you will learn how to visualize and work with graphs from social networking sites using Gephi and Python.
