Discovering how Immutability helps to protect your backup data
If you decide to use the Immutability feature of Veeam Backup & Replication, you are taking steps to ensure that you are protecting your data. Turning this on protects your data from the following possible courses of action:
- Deletion of data: You cannot delete data on the Capacity Extent until the immutability expiration date passes, thereby preventing accidental deletion also.
- Network attack: If you have a breach in your network, having the Immutable feature prevents the attacker from compromising and deleting your data.
- Malware activity: Most malware or ransomware attacks try to encrypt or delete data, but having the Immutable setting prevents this and safeguards your data.
