Manjaro Linux User Guide

Introduction to Manjaro and Linux

Why Linux, and why Manjaro? This book was written to answer this question perfectly with all the reasons why. Manjaro is one of the best Linux distributions due to its simplicity, speed, security, great amount of available software (SW), and user-friendliness. Thanks to this, it is one of the best distributions to start learning Linux. In addition, the book covers many topics, generic for most Linux distributions.

In this chapter, we will first look at the book’s structure. We will then start our journey with a short introduction to Arch and Manjaro Linux characteristics. We will understand why Linux-based operating systems (OSs) run on more devices than any other existing OS, looking into alternative OSs. The last part of the chapter reviews Linux’s history and key points of its main variants.

If you want, you can skip this chapter. The chapters’ topics are as much as possible separated, and most can be read independently...

Book structure and contents

The purpose of this book is to present most of the magnificent features of Manjaro and most modern Linux distributions in an easy and fast way for all users – beginners and intermediate/advanced. If you are a Windows user, a beginner, or a newbie of any kind, this book is for you. If you are an intermediate or advanced user, you will find most of the topics engaging and with up-to-date information. This book can also serve as a basic Manjaro/Linux reference guide for the presented common topics.

There are Terminal fans, mouse fans, and people who think one or the other is good/bad/unknown, and so on. Historically, the Terminal with commands was the tool of choice for any features and settings set up for Linux. As Linux keeps pace with developments, we have hundreds of nice graphical tools to make our lives easier. So, for newbies and people looking for graphical menus, all important basic settings with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) will be presented...

I really loved how the author included information specific to that distro, but a lot of other common linux functions. This makes it very beginner friendly. Definitely worth the buy.

I found this very enlightening because I have leaned more heavily on Debian linux versions. It was refreshing to actually learn the "Arch User Repo" (Since Manjaro is an Arch-based Linux distribution) ayou also get access to AUR (Arch User Repository)Manjaro app availabity is amazing vs. Ubuntu and is an excellent alternative to Ubuntu. The author goes into the stability compared to Arch Linux, and how to manage a rolling release with frequent updates and concerns. A great introduction to Linux Pamac, a graphical tool that allows users to easily search for and install packages from Manjaro’s repositories. Pamac also simplifies the process of updating and removing packages. A great introduction to a new Linux version.
