There are three categories here: media players, editors/Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), and music servers.
PulseAudio is the Free and Open Source (FOSS) audio package/driver on almost all Linux distributions. Thus, if you type volume
or audio
in your main menu’s search, you will find application(s) for audio input and output control via PulseAudio.
In Xfce, the PulseAudio Volume Control GUI is installed by default. The sound control is integrated directly into the system settings on KDE and GNOME. In the last two, search for pulse
in Pamac to add the PulseAudio Volume Control or Equalizer applications.
Classic audio players
Xfce comes with Audacious, KDE with Elisa, and Gnome with Lollypop. They are all excellent for listening to music collections on your drive.
