Manufacturing in the bigger context
In the previous chapter, we delved into the realm of architecture and system design and the constructs, layers, and importance of a flexible design approach. Armed with this knowledge and using architectural thinking for a contextualized problem, we could arrive at a solution that fits a particular situation unique to your manufacturing industry or facility. Figure 3.1 outlines some of the primary functions within the manufacturing process, with production being the core function of any given manufacturing facility:
