Build, leverage, or buy?
It’s a daunting task to choose the right observability toolset for your organization. Almost every vendor in the analytics and monitoring space has an observability offering. All organizations are often presented with three choices when it comes to selecting a tool:
- Build a tool
- Leverage existing tools
- Buy an off-the-shelf enterprise product
The deciding factors for selection should be observability requirements, risk appetite, investment, and organizational culture.
The build strategy is all about developing a solution within the organization with the components available in the public domain, likely using open source tools. It does not necessarily mean developing a tool from scratch, and we don’t recommend that either, due to the significant efforts required to make it work in an enterprise environment.
