The following sections will show you how to connect FreeRADIUS to LDAP.

Installing slapd

Ensure slapd is installed on your Linux server. The following table can be used as a guideline to install slapd on each of the three distributions discussed in this book:

Distribution	Command to install slapd LDAP server
CentOS	yum install openldap-servers openldap-clients
SUSE	zypper install openldap2 openldap2-client
Ubuntu	sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils

After slapd is installed we need to configure it.

Configuring slapd

To get slapd up and running we will use a bare minimum slapd.conf file. This is only for demonstration purposes; do not use it in a production environment.

Note

The proper configuration of slapd is beyond the scope of this book. This chapter will only help to configure a very basic slapd LDAP server.

CentOS

Follow these steps to configure slapd on CentOS:
