A physical intrusion detection system (PIDS) is the controls in place to identify physical threats. PIDS are used in detection, most often seen injunction with physical controls. PIDS are put in place to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of resources on a physical level. PIDS is an odd type of intrusion system because, in many cases, PIDS can also act as a prevention method as well. Examples of PIDS are as follows:
- Security guards
- Security cameras
- Access control systems (card and biometric)
- Firewalls
- Man traps
- Motion sensors
