Creating your prototype
We will create our prototype in stages, as we’ve done with past projects. The RFID system we are designing consists of processing power for control, an RFID reader, RFID corresponding tags, and communication with the wearer in the form of lights. My research showed that people prefer to learn through doing. By using RFID as a system to enable quick recall, it should be beneficial to the wearer. Scanning a tag is also an easy action, so it should not overload someone’s memory.
Why this system? The purpose of the system is to track your items. The RFID reader and tags create a scan-in-and-scan-out system. The external LEDs allow the wearer to see which items are contained within the bag. The LEDs are bright and easily visible across a room. This allows an individual to determine whether all their items are packed. They don’t need to stop whatever other activities they are doing. It is this communication that the bag provides, which, in...
