Building your plan for the first 90 days
In 2014, I wrote a story that was published by CIO.com, entitled My First 90 Days as a CIO. This was a plan that I wrote before starting the new role, and I had anticipated what I would need to do in these vital first 90 days on the job. The plan was not private, and I used this as an approach to start branding myself. The lessons included my own personal experiences and insights from my previous 20 years as a CIO in different roles globally and in diverse industries. I have tried to list some of those lessons in the previous sections. The basic structure and skeleton of the 90-day plan have withstood the test of time. However, there will always be some minor tweaks required in different roles.
Having a written plan comes with a caveat, as you don’t know all the old issues in a new organization. However, in an interview, you would differentiate yourself from other candidates by providing assurance that you have completed some due diligence...
