Connectivity elements – cables and connectors
This section is brief. It will prepare you to connect your AWS Outposts rack with your on-premises networking devices. AWS opted to keep the available options simple, which reduces the number of choices to be made. Performance and reliability are the criteria when it comes to connector and media options and AWS is strict with these criteria.
AWS has done an excellent job describing Outposts requirements at https://docs.aws.amazon.com/outposts/latest/userguide/outposts-requirements.html. We will reproduce some of the tables while exploring the topics:
- Network speeds: You can choose between 1 GBps, 10 GBps, 40 GBps, or 100 GBps.
Important
If you take the route of 1 GBps, the Outposts Networking Device (OND) will only support this link speed. The other OND available for Outposts supports the speeds of 10, 40, and 100 GBps but exclusively. If you select 10 GBps uplinks, only this link speed will be configured.
