Abusing the IAMS

IAMSs are software systems used to monitor and manage a wide range of industrial equipment and systems, such as SISs. IAMSs are critical in ensuring both the safety and availability of industrial systems. Yet, due to their importance, malicious users can utilize them as a means to carry out cyber attacks against industrial safety and control systems.

Malicious users can deploy various means to carry out cyber attacks against IAMSs. These include a variety of malicious software such as viruses and Trojans, as well as social engineering attacks. Using malicious software, malicious users can manipulate IAMSs to steal data, delete or corrupt data, install malicious software, disable legitimate software, or compromise network access. They can also use malicious software to gain access to SISs, which can lead to dangerous results.
