On the short list of essential skills for any photo editor is the topic of selection. Selection needs to be practiced because not every selection technique will work for every situation. If I am editing an image that has trees and leaves, I will adopt a method significantly different from what I would use with a hard-edged item such as a building. The process of selection is something that can only be learned through trial and error… there is no substitute for actual editing in the program.
It is physically impossible to show you all the tools and techniques to select for every conceivable situation and so, in this book, I wanted to give you the simplest, most universal tools for selection to get you up and moving in your editing.
